Supporters supporting

There have been many instances over the years of AFC Wimbledon supporters taking a cause to their hearts and getting on their bike (or running shoes) to do something about it. They often access the good will of the public and fellow supporters in the name of the club but their good works - after a mention in the programme or a note on the OS - disappear quickly from the radar.

I'd like to take a moment to record a couple of these individual efforts and to acknowledge the individuals involved.

First off there was Marc Jones and a couple of other AFC Wimbledon supporters who supported Carers Support Merton, and in particular the young carers of the borough, by going on a sponsored run. There are some nice photos on page 4 of their December newsletter and a short write up as well

A massive thank you to Marc Jones and his AFC Wimbledon Colleagues and to Grant Webster who took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon and to date have raised a staggering £3,900 in sponsorship for Carers Support Merton.
Second up is Tina Massey who will be joining ex-Don Chris Perry for a fund-raising knees up in the bar at KM this Saturday 12th March all to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association - raffles, buffet, auction and music! Good luck to her and I hope she raises a decent sum.
The St Anns Flag - The only football flag to feature kapok stuffed balls?
Nice 3d effect but tricky to fold!
And finally, a little matter of a donation. I'm a little hazy on the exact details of this (and I don't have a copy of the relevant programme to hand) but I believe all the Conference clubs are provided with a couple of thousand pounds each to pass on for the benefit of a local charity or organization. This year the club chose St Anns School for children with learning and physical disabilities in Morden, with whom we have developed a strong relationship over recent years. Terry and the team have held training sessions there and at the begining of the season they took part in the 'Flying the Flag for Haydon' project. They were presented with a cheque at half time, which proved another great oppportunity to give their flag another airing!
